Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward

I listened to the audio version of this masterfully written, haunting, and powerful novel. Sing, Unburied, Sing – the story, its characters, the atrocities of Mississipi’s Parchman prison – will stay with me forever. I can’t remember a more powerful image than that of the final scene in the book. For audio listeners, the narration was superb, my favorite being the handling of JoJo’s character. My only caution is for those listening while driving, it is a bit of a challenge navigating when you are wracked with sobs and can’t see clearly through the tears. You might want to pull over to the side of the road for portions of this book.
