Review of Weyward by Emelia Hart

Let’s start by saying, I loved this book! Emilia Hart’s debut novel Weyward weaves together the stories of three women across different centuries, each facing some form of male oppression or abuse, either personally, or in the case of one, the abuse of her childhood friend. The timeline goes back and forth between 1619, 1942, and 2019, portraying Altha, Violet, and Kate, who share a powerful connection to nature and animals, making them “witches” but not in the traditional sense of the word. The book tells the story of how each manages to come to terms with the Weyward women’s legacy and ultimately, to use it for survival. The book is beautifully written and the alternating viewpoints are done well, which is not always the case. I fell in love with all three of the female characters and found myself staying up late to finish their story!
